When should I get tested?
In general, we recommend you getting tested if you have had an unprotected sexual encounter, if you have any symptoms or if you have recently changed sexual partner. Some infections only show up on a test from 14 days after the risky event. If you want to get tested earlier that’s fine but we do recommend a re-test in 14 days’ time if the result is negative. If you have been on a course of antibiotics, we recommend you wait 3 weeks before getting tested.
How do I get tested for STIs through your service?
You order the test online, take the sample at home or wherever it is most convenient for you and send it back to our lab in our pre-paid envelope.
Which test should I take?
Feel free to use our symptoms checker to help you choose the test. However, please note that not all sexually transmitted infections have symptoms. Bear in mind that each test only looks for the specific STI listed. For example, a chlamydia test will only look for the chlamydia infection. This is why, if you are unsure, we recommend taking a Full STI Screen as this test will look for seven different sexually transmitted infections.
What happens when I order a test online?
We despatch your STI test kit through the post to your delivery address via whichever postal service you have chosen. If you order it on a working day before 3:00pm, we will dispatch it on the same day.
What are the postal charges?
Postal charges vary depending on the service you choose. If we send your test kit to a UK location, you will either be charged £3.95 for First Class, $4.95 for Royal Mail 24 or £6.95 for Royal Mail Special Delivery, depending on your preference.
What will I receive in the post?
You will receive a discreet padded package containing your sample kit with specific instructions, the pre-paid return envelope and the pre-completed laboratory form. Please see our how it works page for more information.
How do I take the sample?
Any of our sample kits will always come with specific instructions. Please follow the instructions carefully. If you do have doubts, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.
How do I post the sample back?
You can post the sample back in our pre-paid envelope. You can send it back by posting it through any mailbox or post office in the UK.
How accurate are your home tests?
We use the largest independent pathology laboratory in the UK – The Doctor's Laboratory. Laboratory testing is one of the most reliable ways of testing a sample.
How quick can I get my results for the home test? How long does a test take?
We aim to provide most results within 24 hours from when the sample is received by the lab. The time depends on the test you have requested. For example, a chlamydia or a combination test will take around 24 hours, while a Full STI Screen normally takes between 36 and 48 hours, depending on lab volumes.
How do I get my results?
You will be notified when your results are ready via email. You will also get an SMS sent to your phone if you have asked to receive it. You can login any time after that to view your full results on our secure platform.
How effective is treatment?
STIs can cause problems if left untreated for a long period of time but most can be treated with an appropriate course of antibiotics.
Can you send a test kit outside of the UK?
We send test kits within the UK only.
