About Chlamydia

Chlamydia is transmitted through sexual activity such as vaginal, anal and oral sex. It is also possible for a mother to pass it on to her baby during vaginal childbirth. Chlamydia often has no symptoms, therefore it is advisable to have checks every time you change sexual partner.

We have a simple test that will confirm or rule out chlamydia. The test will also verify that the infection has completely gone after any treatment. You must remember this will only identify a chlamydia infection; it won't look for any other sexually transmitted diseases. For a wider sexual health screen you will need one of our full STI screens or you can have a joint chlamydia and gonorrhoea test.

What happens if the result is positive?

Don't worry, Chlamydia is very easy to treat using antibiotics.

How long will the Chlamydia test take to process?

Once we receive your sample it takes 24 hours.

Can I be sure the result is correct?

It's the same test that you'd get from the majority of private GPs. Our laboratory, TDL Pathology, is one the leading scientific labs in Britain and is hugely experienced in this field.

If I have Chlamydia, what happens if I do nothing about it?

Treating chlamydia at an early stage drastically reduces the chances of future complications. If ignored, it can lead to, among other things, blocked fallopian tubes, pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility in men and women.

If I think I might be at risk, how long should I wait to get tested?

We recommend that you get tested straight away. If you are getting tested after a risky event then we recommend waiting 2 weeks. You can test straight away in these circumstances but if the result is negative, we will always recommend a retest.
