Throat Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea

What is this test?

The GUM Clinic’s throat swab is designed to detect the presence of chlamydia and gonorrhoea in the throat. These are the two most common sexually transmitted infections in the UK and a standard chlamydia and gonorrhoea test will not detect for throat infections, as tests are site-specific.

How does the test work?

We send you out a special swab with some easy to follow instructions. You wipe the swab against the 5 points indicted in the instructions and then send it back to our lab for analysis in the reply paid envelope. Results are available in 24 hours on the standard test but you can request a 4 hour turnaround if you need the results quicker than that.

Is the test accurate?

This test is done using PCR, which is the most accurate form of testing available. The testing is done in an accredited laboratory and it is the same test that you would get if you visit any private doctor in London. By sending the test kit to you rather than seeing you face to face, we keep the costs down and make these tests affordable for most people.
